What if what your heart yearned for the most was your ancient ancestors?
Many years ago I had the opportunity to connect with my ancient blood ancestors for the first time.
As I tuned in I saw a tundra landscape. Northern lights illuminated the sky overhead. And a community of ancestors led by a woman approached me.
They surrounded me with joy, cheering and dancing in a circle. It felt like a homecoming that we’d all been waiting for. And one I didn’t know that I’d been waiting for deep down inside.
The images moved me.
Bringing tears of joy to my eyes and a deep exhale in my cells.
As I sat there stunned by the images coming to me and the joy I felt enveloped in, I heard a sound that sounded like heaven. The guiding ancestor opened her mouth. Out came an otherworldly sound toward the Northern Lights sky.
She repeated this several times, looking at me to make sure I was paying attention. And then signaled for me to make the same sound.
This sacred sound was how she communicated with nature spirits around them. A sound that opened gateways.
When I came out of the experience and debriefed with another retreatant she knew the sound! Kulning. A sound Swedish women used to call cattle and each other across the mountains. Each with their own unique sound.
One thing surprised me the most as I continued to build a relationship with my ancient ancestors:
Our relationship slowly reweaved a sense of culture that felt missing in my life.
I discovered lost family histories, stories, and elements of culture. And as I did, I felt like recovering lost parts of my soul. This sparked a deep rooted sense of belonging and purpose in my life.
